Biography

I am a writer and activist dedicated to understanding and enhancing efforts to use new, social media tools for social change.

I have written several books and papers. Momentum: Igniting Social Change in the Connected Age, the winner of the Terry McAdams National Book Award, was published in 2006 by Wiley & Sons. The Case Foundation commissioned me to write a paper on young people, Millennials, and activism called Social Citizens, and I co-edited a collection of essays, Rebooting America, of transformative ways to reinvent 21st century democracy using new media tools.

I hosts a monthly podcast for the Chronicle of Philanthropy called Social Good and write on my own blog, A. Fine Blog. I am also a senior advisor to the Personal Democracy Forum and CauseWired.

I was the C.E.O. of The E-Volve Foundation in 2004-2005, and the Founder and Executive Director of Innovation Network, Inc. from 1992-2004. I am a graduate of Vanderbilt University and New York University, and was a Trustee and Fire and Police Commissioner of Sleepy Hollow, New York.
